Dubai: The 14th Kavi Sammelan and Mushaira, organised annually as part of the Republic Day of India celebrations, will be held in Dubai on Thursday.
The annual literary gathering is a continuous effort of Chief Organiser Syed Salahuddin to develop the emirate as a centre of social, literary and cultural activities focusing more on creative and knowledge-based events in order to motivate the UAE-based Indian expatriates towards a positive and healthy way of life.
A number of eminent literary personalities have attended this unique poetry recital session since its inception 13 years ago and shared their rich experiences and knowledge in a poetic way promoting knowledge, skill and positive attitude among the audience.
Salahuddin said that several well-known multifaceted literary and cultural personalities have confirmed their participation in the forthcoming event.
He said, “The list of top contemporary Indian poets of Hindi and Urdu who will regale the audience this year includes Waseem Barelvi, Anwar Jalalpuri, Lata Haya, Dr Kalim Qaiser, Col VP Singh, Rajesh Reddy, Mahek Bharti, Usman Minai, Deepak Gupta, Hashim Firozabadi and Saba Balrampuri. Eminent Pakistani poet Dr Peer Zada Qasim will grace the occasion as special invitee. The poetic gathering will be inaugurated by veteran Indian politician Nirmal Khatri.”
Salahuddin, who launched the unique literary gathering 13 years ago bringing together popular poets of Hindi and Urdu, said he was quite satisfied the way this annual event has celebrated the beauty of Hindi and Urdu, the two most widely spoken languages in India.
He added, “I believe that the divide between Hindi and Urdu is artificial. It is a tragedy of today’s time that most of the expatriate Indians do not read literary works in these two languages, despite the fact that the two languages are spoken equally well by Hindus and Muslims and connect Indians across the country. This event is a medium to reconnect the Indian expatriates to their roots.”
He expressed confidence that the eminent poets will bring alive the beauty and brilliance of Urdu and Hindi poetry as they will captivate the audience with their couplets and ghazals speaking of love, peace, national integration and communal harmony.
