Trichy/Chennai, Tamil Nadu: “Shirk Ozippu Manadu”, Anti Shirk Conference, organized recently by Tamil Nadu Thowheed Jamath (TNTJ) continues to make waves even after a fortnight and has become a widely discussed subject across Tamil Nadu. The one-day conference generated considerable heat even before it was held and brought the renowned Muslim organization TNTJ in direct confrontation with Hindutva outfits in the state.
Tamil Nadu Thowheed Jamath (TNTJ), a Muslim organization with a large following, had organized “Shirk Ozippu Manadu” or Shirk Eradication Conference” on Sunday 31st January 2016 at Trichy.
TNTJ is playing a pivotal role and has been instrumental in organizing several conferences and protests in the past, which have been mostly of socio-economic-political benefit to the society. TNTJ added another feather to its cap by organizing this completely unique conference. The real objective of this conference was to invite Muslims to worship only one Almighty Allah and shun all superstitious belief currently prevalent in the society.
Apart from Hindutva outfits, TNTJ had also to face stiff opposition from other Muslim sects as well. Conference organizers while talking to this Correspondent said that even the representatives of Tamil Nadu Sunnath Jamath Federation had approached Madras High Court demanding a ban on the conference. The high court however dismissed the petition saying that it couldn’t direct the police to prevent TNTJ from holding the conference. A similar petition seeking ban on the conference was also filed in Madurai High Court bench as well and it was summarily dismissed.
Hindutva outfits in Tamil Nadu strongly opposed TNTJ’s move to hold the conference and demanded a ban on it saying that the conference will degrade people’s belief and lead them astray. Demonstrations were also staged by the Akila Bharata Hindu Mahasabha and Hindu Makkal Katchi. The two Hndutva outfits also submitted a petition to the Tricy City Police and demanded a ban on the conference.
TNTJ however refused to be cowed down to the threats by Hindutva outfits and a Muslim sect, and held the conference on schedule. The success of the conference can be gauged from the fact that it attracted a mammoth gathering of Muslim men and women. According to the organizers, over one million people from all strata of the society participated in the hugely successful conference. A large number of non-Muslims were also seen attending the conference.
Earlier in the morning before the start of the conference on January 31, an exhibition was also organized for creating awareness among the people regarding the fraudulent practices such as black magic, Jinn’s, Tareeqas, Shaikhs, Mureeds, etc. The main event started in the evening. TNTJ General Secretary Br. Mohammed Yusuf welcomed the gathering. He recalled the obstacles brought in the path of holding the conference and said that all barriers set by the enemies have been broken and Allah is the only one to be effusively praised for this victory. Br. Shamshulla Rahamani, President of the Conference Management Committee, briefed about the organization’s activities it has been successfully rendering for past three decades and how it bravely confronted many obstacles from time to time.
Fakeer Mohammed Althafi, President of TNTJ, delivered the lecture on “Oneness of God” and clearly described the attributed of Almighty Allah saying that it is He alone worthy to be worshiped and none else. P.Jainul Abeeden, Convenor of TNTJ, delivered the lecture on the topic “Blessings of following Towheed”.
Over 20 resolutions were passed in the conference. TNTJ announced its decision not to provide its opinion henceforth on supporting any political party during the elections. The resolutions include resolve to worship only one Allah, do not believe in black-magic, do not believe anyone as the one equal to almighty. The political resolutions included urging Centre and State governments to implement reservation appropriately. The conference also demanded the release of prisoners who have served more than 12 years. There were also resolutions against discrimination of Dalits and against the government’s bias in offering benefits during Hindu festivals over Muslim festivals.
The Shirk Ozippu Manadu conference passed off peacefully and without any untoward incident. The district administration had deployed a huge number of police force to maintain peace and deal with mischief-mongers. The medical wing of TNTJ was also seen to be very active with ambulance service in complete readiness to handle emergencies. TNTJ left no stoned unturned to make this conference highly successful. It had stationed its state representatives in the city for more than a month and monitored all the arrangements. People while departing from the conference venue were full of praise and thanked TNTJ for organizing such a unique conference and hoped that it would hold such conferences across the state in future as well.
It may be noted that the core objective of TNTJ is to eradicate shirk and it is been working for more than three decades to achieve this objective. However, during the last six months, it has been doing a massive propaganda all over Tamil Nadu and creating awareness among the people to shun worshiping of the dead, worshiping at Dargahs, not to believe in black magic, fortune telling and setting partners to Allah etc.
What is Shirk?
In Arabic, the word “Shirk” means taking a partner or worshiping someone other than Allah. This includes approaching a Peer and seeking his help instead of Allah. Muslims have been forbidden by Allah not to set up rivals with Him. Holy Quran says: “Then do not set up rivals unto Allaah (in worship) while you know (that He Alone has the right to be worshipped)” [al-Baqarah 2:22]
Holy Quran in another verse says: “And they set up rivals to Allaah, to mislead (men) from His path! Say: ‘Enjoy (your brief life)! But certainly, your destination is the (Hell) Fire!’” [Ibraaheem 14:30]
