Pune: A “New Swadeshi Movement” is in the offing, what Indian-American entrepreneur and Founder of World’s First Muslim Spelling Bee Competition Tausif Malik calls, with the launch of IndiaStartupFest.com on 15th August 2016 to coincide with 70th anniversary of India’s Independence Day.
“IndiaStartupFest.com is India’s First National Startup & Entrepreneurship Festival. It has been launched with an objective to create a platform for all Indians irrespective of their backgrounds to benefit from the Startup & Entrepreneurship Ecosystem and Government of India policies,” said Tausif Malik while talking to this Correspondent.
Mr. Malik said that a small percentage of Indians are currently active in the StartUp Ecosystem. “There’s a need therefore not only to increase participation of budding entrepreneurs in large numbers, but also to create a equality platform for all Indians from various backgrounds irrespective of any kind of biases be it gender, language, technology, socio economic barrier or professional experience. We are going to organize India Startup Fest across 12 major cities of India annually. This platform is essentially for all those Indians who want to network, connect, showcase business and benefit from the Startup & Entrepreneurship Ecosystem and Government of India policies.” he informed.
On being asked why he called the launch of IndiaStartupFest.com as a “New Swadeshi Movement”, Tausif Malik, its Founder, explained that August 15 was particularly selected to announce the launch keeping in with the importance of this day and the spirit of freedom and free thinking that it inculcates in every Indian. We know that our countryment are enterprising and work wonders when provided the right environment and opportunity to excel. Let the spirit of freedom flow, and let it also be a great opportunity for every Indian with a commercial idea to establish a business. They don’t need to be dependent on jobs, they can be job creators.
Mr. Malik further added that he is indeed grateful to Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his vision and approach, which has indeed come as a fabulous gift for all Indians to become a business owner, create jobs for others and help flourish India in the process. Now, that scores of Indians are going to gradually integrate themselves in the ‘StartUp Ecosystem’, I forsee a change that is going to happen in the country with our newly launched IndiaStartupFest.com.
“Prime Minister Narendrai Modi’s current policies such as Startup India, Digital India, Make In India and Skill India are very encouraging for the Startup Ecosystem, and we want to connect IndiaStartupFest.com with these policies,” said Mr. Malik.
The Government of India’s Startup India campaign is based on an action plan aimed at promoting bank financing for start-up ventures to boost entrepreneurship and encourage start ups with jobs creation. The campaign was first announced by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in his 69th Independence Day address on15th August, 2015 from the Red Fort. It is focused on restricting the role of states in policy domain and to get rid of “license raj” and hindrances such as in land permissions, foreign investment proposal, environmental clearances etc.
It was organized by Department of Industrial Policy and Promotion (DIPP). A startup is an entity that is headquartered in India which was opened less than five years ago and has an annual turnover less than ₹25 crore (US$3.7 million). The government has already launched iMADE, an app development platform aimed at producing 1,000,000 apps and PMMY, the MUDRA Bank, a new institution set up for development and refinancing activities relating to micro units with a refinance Fund of ₹200 billion (US$3.0 billion). The Standup India initiative is also aimed at promoting entrepreneurship among SCs/STs, women communities. Rural India’s version of Startup India was named the Deen Dayal Upadhyay Swaniyojan Yojana.
