Kozhikode: Noted Islamic educationalist and architect of Wafy, Wafiyyacourses in Kerala, Abdul Hakeem Faizy has been nominated to the Executive Board of Cairo-based The League of Islamic Universities (LIU).
Faizy, who is the Coordinator of Coordination of Islamic Colleges which at present runs 69 colleges across the state, is the first Indian to be nominated to the 21-member apex bodyof the international association of Islamic universities, which currently has as its members over 200 Islamic universities from all over the Arab world, in addition to Europe and Asia.
The Executive is tasked with selecting the new governing body of LIU, granting membership to the new universities, forging academic tie-ups among the member universities, exchange of students and faculties and conducting conferences and academic seminars.
Faizy will be attending the fourth conference of the Executive and the tenth General Assembly of LIU to be held in Alexandria from April 25 to 27, 2018.
Darul Huda Islamic University is also one of the members of LIU from India. CIC which is a member of LIU since 2014 had also entered into different academic agreements with reputed international universities and educational bodies such as Al Azhar University, University of Cairo and Academy of Arab Languages etc.
Faizy who lives in Adrissery in Malappuram district had attended several international conferences and educational seminars in India and abroad. He was a recipient of ‘Educationalist of the Year Award’ of Qatar-based Islam.net in 2011 and the International Personality of the Year Award instituted by Islamonline.net in 2009.
Faizy’s membership in the executive body of LIU comes in recognition of the integrated education model combining traditional and modern Islamic studies and modern education, conceived and successfully implemented by CIC in Kerala.
Coordination of Islamic Colleges (CIC) is an academic governing body functioning as an Islamic University in Kerala. Established in 2000 and registered with the Government of Kerala (Numb: 379/04). The CIC looks to achieve a closer integration of various streams of knowledge, bridging the gap and realizing the synergy between religious and secular studies. Currently headquartered in MarkazuTharbiyyathil Islamiyya Educational Campus, in the district of Malappuram, the CIC has 69 Islamic, Arts and Science Colleges affiliated to it.
