Aligarh: In a first for medical institutes and colleges in North India, the Department of Radiodiagnosis, Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College (JNMC), Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) has installed a new advanced model of MRI scanner.
The Magnetom Avanto Fit model of Siemens with 48 channels installed in JNMC is the best and most updated of 1.5 Tesla MRI scanners. It has the most advanced hardware and latest applications.
Prof M Khalid, Chairperson, Department of Radiodiagnosis, said that the new machine will scan the patients with minimum noise and shorter periods to produce high quality images. He added that the MRI scanner has hardware for scanning brain, abdomen, chest, breast, spine, knee, shoulder, ankle, foot, wrist and fingers.
“A separate hardware for breast MRI has also been bought,” said Prof Khalid adding that the MRI of patients with metal implants such as titanium will now be done with a new metal artefact reduction technology.
The facility will enable JNMC to perform advanced imaging of cancer patients and people with bone and joint problems, said JNMC officials. They added that the machine will also do liver imaging, cardiac MRI, cardiac angiography, kidney and neck angiography.
